Screen Reader & Accessibility Checkout Guide
This guide is intended for users utilizing screen readers (such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver) to ensure a smooth transaction when purchasing automotive parts.
1. Navigation & Part Selection
Our store is organized by Year, Make, and Model rather than VIN.
-
The "Vehicle Selector" Tool: Located at the top of every page. This is a series of three dropdown menus.
-
Keyboard Shortcut: Press Tab to reach the "Select Year" dropdown, use Arrow Keys to select, and press Enter. Repeat for Make and Model.
-
Filtering: Once a vehicle is selected, the "Filter Results" sidebar (available via H3 headings) allows you to narrow parts by Category (e.g., "Brakes" or "Lighting").
2. Reviewing Part Compatibility
Before adding a part to your cart, navigate to the "Specifications" section of the product page (usually the second H2 heading).
-
Our system uses Table Row Headers to describe part attributes.
-
Check the "Position" attribute (e.g., "Front Left" or "Rear") to ensure it matches the side of the vehicle you are repairing.
3. The Shopping Cart
-
Quantity Adjustments: The quantity field is a standard numeric input. After changing the number, you must select the "Update Cart" button to refresh the total.
-
Error Alerts: If a part is out of stock, a "Status Alert" will be announced immediately via ARIA-live regions.
4. Secure Checkout Process
The checkout is divided into four clear steps:
-
Shipping Information: Standard form fields. Use Tab to move between First Name, Last Name, and Address.
-
Shipping Method: A radio button group. The default is "Standard Ground."
-
Payment: Our credit card fields are hosted in a secure iframe. When you enter this section, your screen reader will announce that you have entered a secure text provider.
-
Review & Place Order: The final "Place Order" button is an H2 or Button element at the very bottom of the page.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter a "Select Menu" that is not expanding or an image missing "Alt-Text" descriptions:
